Featured Partner Scholarships: March/April 2024

By Matt Konrad

Thanks to this year’s delayed FAFSA, you might be feeling like your college choices are still up in the air—and that’s okay! Schools across the country are modifying their financial aid calendars to ensure you can make an informed decision on your timeline.

In the meantime, you can keep applying for scholarships! Check out all of the open programs on Scholarship America’s Browse Scholarships page, or read on to find out about guaranteed funds for those who lost loved ones in the fight against COVID; $7,500 scholarships for engineering students; and a unique program for students in Boston.

Brave of Heart Scholarship

In May of 2020, the Foundations of Cigna and New York Life established the Brave of Heart Fund, with a mission to provide charitable grants and emotional support services to families of frontline healthcare workers, volunteers, and support staff whose lives were lost in the fight against COVID-19.

Administered by E4E Relief, the Brave of Heart Fund includes the Brave of Heart Scholarship—a program that awards scholarships to the children, spouses or domestic partners of frontline health care workers who lost their lives to COVID-related causes. Applications for the Brave of Heart Scholarship are now open.

If you lost a parent, spouse or domestic partner who was employed or volunteering as a frontline health care worker, you may be eligible to apply. You must also be a U.S. citizen or legal resident, planning to enroll, full-time or part-time, in undergraduate or graduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school in the upcoming academic year.

If you are currently in school, you must also have a GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale or its equivalent. Non-traditional students, students in study-abroad programs and students returning to college after time off are encouraged to apply, even if you don’t have a recent GPA. Finally, applicants who lost a parent must be age 26 or under at the time of the application deadline. (There is no age restriction for spouses/domestic partners.)

The Brave of Heart Scholarship is not a competitive program; all eligible applicants will receive funds. Award amounts range from $5,000 to $25,000 per academic year, depending on financial need and area of study. Most awards can be received for up to a total of four years or through the 2026-27 school year, whichever comes first. (Graduate students may be eligible for awards up to $50,000/year.)

Applications are open until April 24. Apply Now >

(More eligibility information, including eligible parent/spouse/partner occupations and child requirements, can be found on the application page.)

CDM Smith Scholarship

Started as a partnership of three consultants in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1947, CDM Smith has grown to become a global team of over 5,000 professionals, driving an impactful $1.4 billion independent engineering and construction firm with a mission to make the world a more resilient place.

To support their ongoing purpose to make life better, the company has established the CDM Smith Scholarship Program. Open now, the program is providing eight $7,500 scholarships to engineering undergraduate and graduate students who strive to be the best, brightest and boldest they can be.

Last year’s scholarship recipients included students in civil, environmental, chemical and automation engineering, along with computer science, robotics and entrepreneurship. They’re students like Landon Choy, an electrical engineering student at Stanford, who says “As a Native Hawaiian instilled with the importance of sustainability for the future of my home, I developed a passion for engineering. I’m interested in designing novel clean energy systems to preserve Hawaii and other island communities.”

If you’re thinking about applying, you must be a high school graduate, current college undergraduate or graduate student, planning to enroll full-time in an eligible program focusing on engineering at an accredited four-year college, university for the entire 2023-2024 academic year. You must also have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent).

Applicants will be asked to explain how your current studies and future goals align with CDM Smith’s vision to “be the best, brightest, and boldest in our industry: client focused, employee centered, technically superior, independent, and strong.” In addition to the scholarship, recipients may be offered an internship opportunity with CDM Smith.

Tanya D. Bloker Memorial Scholarship

Corium is a commercial-stage biopharmaceutical company that is leading the development and commercialization of central nervous system (CNS) healthcare therapies. Located in Boston, Corium works to provide clinicians with important treatment options for patients, their families, and their caregivers.

As the head of marketing for Corium, Tanya Bloker was passionate about people. This was evident in her tenacious spirit and the way she approached her work supporting patients and new treatments for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Her love of people extended to her commitment to those who worked around her, helping them to achieve their potential, and to those less fortunate by finding ways to support them. The Tanya D. Bloker Memorial Scholarship has been established in her memory; to support students in Boston (MA) who have been diagnosed with ADHD and who are pursuing a college education.

If you live in the greater metro Boston area and you have an ADHD diagnosis, you may be eligible to apply for one of two $5,000 awards. You must also be a high school senior, high school graduate or current college undergraduate, planning to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college or university for the entire upcoming academic year.

Your financial need will be considered, and you’ll also be asked to provide a verified ADHD diagnosis to be eligible.
