Stocks finished a choppy preholiday trading session mostly higher on Friday, with the S&P 500, Dow and Nasdaq each scoring an eighth straight weekly gain. The S&P 500 finished 0.9% away from its record close of 4,796.56, set on Jan. 2, 2022.
